Abstract english
Climate Change is an environmental factor, which influences our surroundings and ourselves in multifaceted ways. The psychosocial consequences are far-reaching and are caused by acute impacts of climate change, like extreme weather events, as well as by gradual changes, such as rising temperatures or altered precipitation. This article provides a literature-based overview of these potential psychosocial effects. Because of climate change, a rise in incidence of mental disorders, and increasing conflict potential due to migration and scarcity of resources, can be expected. As a preventive measure, community cohesion and social networks should be encouraged, and psychological support should be provided. Special attention must be paid to vulnerable groups, such as children. © 2018 Hans Marseille Verlag GmbH. All rights reserved.
