Information on data protection

The protection of personal data is an important concern for the operators of openUMWELT. For this reason, usage data on this website is only collected and stored in anonymised form for optimisation purposes. This data cannot be used to personally identify you as a visitor to this website, and no usage profile can be created. The data is used exclusively to improve the service offered by the operators of openUMWELT on their website.

The anonymised and aggregated data provides the operators with information about the use of this website, for example, how often various articles have been accessed or which browser (e.g. Firefox, Internet Explorer) is used to view the website. The operators use this information to better tailor the information on the website to your needs. This allows frequently read articles to be identified and the website's display to be adapted to the most commonly used browsers.

It is therefore possible to use this website without disclosing personal information. If you send us an email, it and your email address will be used exclusively for correspondence with you.

Only insofar as there is a legal obligation or a court order, or if this is necessary for legal or criminal prosecution in the event of attacks on the server operator's Internet infrastructure, will personal data be disclosed and derived to the extent required by law.

Cookies

A cookie is a short entry in a special file directory on your computer and is used to exchange information between computer programmes or to archive information for a limited period of time.

Cookies ensure that certain values are retained for the duration of your use of this website and are therefore technically necessary. One of these is the language setting of the website, another is the consent to cookies, which is stored for one year but can be revoked at any time.

The operator does not use any permanent cookies or tracking.

When you log in to the site, a session cookie is created, but this is deleted immediately after the session.

Technical data

Every PC that can access the Internet is assigned a so-called IP (Internet Protocol) address when it connects to the Internet. This technically necessary address is a number consisting of up to 12 digits in four blocks. Every time you visit a website, this IP address is recognised by the respective server and stored (logged) in a technical log. When a user visits the openUMWELT website, this IP number is stored in a log file alongside the page visited. This happens automatically on every server on the Internet. For the statistical evaluation of page views, only the first two blocks of the IP numbers are displayed, so that this data is anonymised.

The browser you use to access the openUMWELT website usually sends data about the type of browser, the operating system, the previously visited website and the next website accessed when leaving the site. This data is also stored in the technical log.

Your rights

If your personal data are processed, you are affected within the meaning of the basic EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and you are entitled to the following rights vis-à-vis the person responsible.

Right of information – Art. 15 GDPR

The right of information gives the data subject comprehensive insight into the data concerning them and several other important criteria, such as the purposes of processing or the duration of storage. The exceptions to this right regulated in Section 34 of the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) apply.

Right to rectification – Art. 16 GDPR

The right to rectification includes the possibility for the data subject to have inaccurate personal data concerning them corrected.

Right to erasure - Art. 17 GDPR

The right to erasure includes the possibility for the data subject to have data deleted by the controller. However, this is only possible if the personal data concerning him or her is no longer necessary, is being processed unlawfully or consent has been revoked. The exceptions to this right as set out in Section 35 of the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) apply.

Right to restriction of processing - Art. 18 GDPR

The right to restriction of processing includes the possibility for the data subject to prevent further processing of personal data concerning him or her for the time being. A restriction occurs primarily during the examination phase of other rights exercised by the data subject.

Right to data portability – Art. 20 GDPR

The right to data portability includes the possibility for the data subject to receive the personal data concerning him or her in a commonly used, machine-readable format from the controller in order to have it transmitted to another controller, if necessary. However, according to Art. 20(3) sentence 2 GDPR, this right does not apply if the data processing serves the performance of public tasks. This is only not the case at the Federal Environment Agency if the processing of personal data is carried out for fiscal purposes.

Right to object – Art. 21 GDPR

The right to object includes the possibility for data subjects to object to the further processing of their personal data in a specific situation, insofar as this is justified by the performance of public tasks or public and private interests. Pursuant to Section 36 of the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG), this right does not apply if a public body is obliged to process data by law.

Right to withdraw consent – Art. 7(3) GDPR

You also have the right to withdraw your consent within the meaning of Art. 6(1)(a) or Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR at any time without affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of your consent prior to its withdrawal.

Right to lodge a complaint – Art. 77 GDPR

Under Art. 77 GDPR, every data subject has the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority.
