UmweltbundesamtThe European Green Deal, published by the European Commission in 2019, represents a new and ambitious approach to put environment and sustainability at the heart of European policy. Its ambitions are high, yet the planned measures might not be sufficient to actually meet them. The report analyzes the European Green Deal from the perspective of the German Environment Agency and places it in the context of the global challenge of achieving the United Nations' sustainable development goals. In addition to necessary measures in the thematic fields of the European Green Deal, the report also addresses the structural adjustments needed as key levers to achieve the desired goals. The report concludes that the European Green Deal is an important step forward, but that further efforts beyond those described there are still needed in order to achieve a sustainable Europe. Umweltbundesamt. Fachgebiet I.1.5 Nationale und internationale UmweltberichterstattungIn its indicator report Data on the Environment 2017, the German Environment Agency gives a comprehensive overview of the state of the environment, the causes of environmental pollution and leverage points for improvement. A total of 50 indicators have been selected from all environmental domains and, wherever possible, underpinned by policy targets, as defined in documents such as the German Sustainable Development Strategy or EU directives. Thus, the environmental indicator system is also a record of environmental policy. UmweltbundesamtWith the indicator report "Data on the Environment - Environmental Monitor 2020", the German Environment Agency provides a condensed picture of the state of the environment, the causes of environmental pollution and starting points for improved policy action. For this purpose, a total of 30 important environmental indicators were selected and, where available, underpinned with existing political goals - for example, from the German sustainability strategy or EU directives. In summary, the system of environmental indicators provides a stocktaking of German environmental policy. Quelle: www.umweltbundesamt.de
