    This evaluation of air quality in Germany in the year 2021 is based on preliminary data which has not yet been conclusively audited from the air monitoring networks of the federal states and the UBA, valid on 31th January 2022. Due to the comprehensive quality assurance within the monitoring networks, the final data will only be available in mid-2022. The currently available data allows for a general assessment of the past year. The following pollutants were subject to consideration: particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3). The evaluation and assessment of the air quality takes place in terms of the limit and target values as well as the new air quality guideline (AQG) levels of the World Health Organization.     Electric bikes get things rolling

    Common questions regarding pedelecs involve their potential for sustainable mobility, and, above all, their environmental impacts. This paper provides answers to these queries. A pedelec puts more stress on the environment than a conventional bicycle without an electric motor, but the relatively low environmental impact level of pedelecs is certainly offset when pedelecs are used in lieu of cars for trips.

    ⁠PtL⁠ fuels are broadly recognized as an important option to make aviation CO2 neutral, and the industrial production of PtL fuels has moved within reach. The updated version of the background paper reviews the basic principles of PtL production routes and draws a comparison with competing fuel options based on sustainability criteria. In order to produce sustainable PtL fuels in the required quantities, it is necessary to use renewable electricity from solar and wind energy, alongside extensively available renewable carbon sources. Furthermore, economic considerations, the technical suitability of PtL fuels, the influence of synthetic fuels on pollutant emissions and high-altitude climate impact, as well as a potential ramp-up of PtL production capacities are discussed.

    Triple Inner Urban Development - Definition, Tasks and Opportunities for an Environmentally Oriented Urban Development

    Urban spaces are confronted with diverse competing uses. There is high development pressure on inner-city land, especially in growing municipalities. At the centre of the planning model of triple inner urban development is the question of how mobility, green and open spaces and building can be developed together in a qualified manner in order to achieve high quality of life for all city residents. This planning model thus extends the existing planning model of dual inner urban development to include the spatial dimension of mobility. Traffic areas, seen as sealed areas of potential, are of great importance when dealing with current challenges. Mobility and the (re)designing road space is crucial for land use and have an influence on climate protection and adaptation, on the provision of recreational areas, the promotion of urban nature, air quality as well as noise pollution, and thus on human health.
