Veröffentlichung COM draft proposal endangers level of health protection against hazardous VOC emissions from construction products(Umweltbundesamt, 2017)This Scientific Opinion Paper reports about current plans of the European Commission to issue a delegated act on communication of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from construction products in form of “VOC classes”. German authorities consider this draft delegated act as completely insufficient regarding health requirements for the marketing of construction products and campaign for resumption of discussions and supplementation of the proposal in order to efficiently avoid unacceptable adverse health effects.Veröffentlichung Considerations on the Revision of the Air Quality Directive 2008/50 EU(Umweltbundesamt, 2022) Wichmann-Fiebig, Marion; Dauert, Ute; Geupel, Markus; Hellack, Bryan; Langner, Marcel; Moravek, Alexander; Richter, Simone; Schütze, Gudrun; Deutschland. UmweltbundesamtIn preparation for the upcoming revision the German Environment Agency (UBA) from a scientific point of view has assessed the possibility to meet the proposed WHO Guidelines Levels, the applicability of improved chemical transport models and advanced monitoring methods for air quality assessment as well as concepts for a better protection of ecosystems from air pollutants. In the following we propose criteria for binding and non-binding air quality standards as well as a monitoring strategy beyond compliance checking. The considerations are based on the German situation but may be extrapolated to many other European Member States. UmweltbundesamtTo further prevent and reduce the pollution of air, water, and soil and to safeguard human health and well-being, the European regulatory framework needs to be improved to include a cross-regulatory approach. This scientific opinion paper presents such an approach for the systemic protection of air, water, soil and human health- the Zero Pollution Ambition Cycle developed by the German Environment Agency (UBA)- The implementation of the measures announced by the European Commission within the EU Action Plan 'Towards Zero Pollution for Air, Water and Soil' published in May 2021 is an excellent opportunity for the different stakeholders for further developing and applying this integrated approach. UmweltbundesamtWith the new draft regulation on the "Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products" (SUR), the European Commission is concretising the pesticide reduction target of 50% by 2030 stipulated in the Farm-to-Fork Strategy. The legally binding implementation of integrated pest management sets a new course for sustainable agriculture. However, for the success of practical implementation to contribute to species conservation and to create resilient ecosystems in the agricultural landscape, further preconditions are necessary. This scientific opinion paper provides four major recommendations for action that are needed from an environmental perspective to achieve the envisaged objectives. Quelle: www.umweltbundesamt.de
