Gerwig, Holger2024-06-162024-06-162017https://openumwelt.de/handle/123456789/6659Quality Assurance/Scientific Advisory Centre, Germany (QA/SAC-D) is hosted at the Federal Environment Agency/Germany (Umweltbundesamt = UBA) in Langen since 2000 to perform network-wide data quality and science-related functions. The main purpose of quality assurance in GAW is to enable worldwide comparability of measurement data over several decades. QA/SAC-D is responsible for the implementation of the quality assurance for the variables aerosol physical properties, volatile organic compounds, nitrous oxide and nitrogen oxides. It coordinates (s. QA-2, GA IP 2016) the activities of four WCCs and GAWTEC by national annual meetings. Also Germany's National Meteorological Service (DWD) takes part in that meetings as national contact for WMO. Germany financially supports WCC to fulfill tasks for the QA/SAC (system audits, instrument calibrations, support local quality system, training for station scientists) (s. QA-3-6, GAWIP 2016): - WCC for Aerosol Physical Properties (AP) at TROPOS, Leipzig - WCC for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) at KIT/IMK-IFU, Garmisch-Partenkirchen - GAW Training and Education Centre (GAWTEC) at UFS, Environmental Research Station Schneefernerhaus, Zugspitze The quality work for GAW as is done by WCC and QA/SAC Germany leads to a better quality and long term stability of the GAW measuring network. An example are trend measurements of gases in low ambient concentrations, like the greenhouse gas Nitrous Oxide. The work of QA/SAC D and the scientific use of GAW DATA is presented in a citizen report about the "UBA Air Quality network". The work of WCC as Central Facilities in the GAW quality structure is presented in leaflets of three supported WCC which can be downloaded under webpages of WCC.
